Shrubs, also known as drinking vinegar, mixed with your favorite CBD tincture is a healthy and fun way to wind down your night.

Have you tried shrubs before? We're not talking about the bush in your garden, we're talking about drinking vinegar, or shrubs as they're sometimes called. Shrubs are a healthy and delicious way to incorporate more beneficial bacteria into your digestive system, and a great alternative to alcoholic cocktails. Tonight we're kicking back with a CBD-infused Beet Shrub courtesy of American Shaman CBD.

When it comes to health, ginger is a great for:

  • Stimulating digestion

  • Anti-inflammatory effects thanks to gingerol, the main active ingredient in ginger root.

Apple cider vinegar:

  • Aids digestion

  • Can lower blood sugar (especially after a carb or sugar-loaded meal)

Beets:

  • Aid digestion

  • Have anti-inflammatory properties

  • Contain betacyanin, the compound that give beets their red hue (the same one that shows up later).

Beets, ginger, CBD and vinegar combine to create an anti-inflammatory digestion booster!

About the Recipe

Shrubs, or drinking vinegars date back as far as the 1500’s. Sekanjabin (sey-can-ja-bean) as it is known in Iran is perhaps the oldest known form of this type of drink, made from vinegar and honey.

This modern version combines three powerful anti-inflammatory digestion aids that also help to bring down blood sugar levels after a carb or sugar-loaded meal.

Apple Cider, Ginger, and Beet Shrub

  • 4 medium red beets (peeled)

  • 1/2 c of water

  • 1/2 c of raw apple cider vinegar

  • 1/2 c of honey

  • 2 tsp freshly grated ginger

  • CBD (see below for recommendations!)

Opportunities for Cannabinoid Infusion

If you'd like to enhance this recipe with cannabinoids, consider using one of the products below. We recommend using between 5-30mg of CBD per serving, depending on your needs and body weight (typically 1-5mg of CBD per 10 lbs of body weight). Remember to always start low and go slow when it comes to cannabinoids, and be sure to read our CBD Safety article and talk to your doctor before incorporating something new into your routine.

Polti CBD Honey

To enhance this recipe with cannabinoids, consider substituting some or all of the honey in each recipe for Potli’s CBD honey.

Potli CBD honey is a full-spectrum product made from hemp grown in Kentucky without pesticides, fertilizers, or chemicals. Their CO2 extracted CBD is then blended with Grade A wildflower honey harvested by hand from their own bees in the Bay Area of California. This female-owned company is passionate about “empowering you to experience and enjoy life your way” by creating products designed to help you live a high-functioning life.

1 tablespoon of Potli’s CBD honey is approximately 10 mg CBD. When substituting infused honey for regular honey, be aware of how many mg CBD are in each portion of the recipe you are making. The standard dose of CBD is 10mg, but varies based on tolerance, reason for use, severity of condition, etc., and can be used at regular dosages as high as 50mg or more. We always recommend starting small and working up as needed to cut down on overall costs of using CBD as medicine.
