About the Facial Sheet Masks Recipe

Sheet masks have become a popular beauty indulgence, but a single mask can cost anywhere from $4-12 — so we decided to explore what exactly goes into making a facial mask and how we could make our own at home!

After exploring some different ingredients, we found that this recipe was a great moisturizing option for our own skin — but remember, everyone is different, so don't hesitate to explore ingredients to find a recipe that works for you!

When we started looking into the face masks on the market, we ultimately found that they are simply comprised of hydrating oils and sometimes a cleansing agent — plus some preservatives, if you're buying them off a store shelf (which we don't love putting onto our skin, our bodies' largest organ!).

After our own research and explorations, we found a favorite formula of our own. Below is a breakdown of the benefits of each of these ingredients so that you can understand how they work and what you may want to include or leave out of your own sheet mask recipe!

When it comes to skincare, vegetable glycerin is:
  • a humectant: helps retain and preserve moisture. When mixed with other ingredients, it helps them get locked into the skin.

Rosewater is:
Witch Hazel is:
  • an astringent: contracts and tightens skin tissues, helping shrink pores, tone skin, and remove surplus dirt and oil

  • antimicrobial: helps kill or stop the growth of harmful microorganisms

  • anti-inflammatory: can soothe irritations and help reduce redness

and hemp oil is a great source of:
  • Vitamin E: a powerful antioxidant with anti-aging properties

  • Vitamin A: helps repair skin damage from sun exposure and aging

  • Omega 3 & Omega 6 Fatty Acids: keeps the skin hydrated and helps with skin growth

How to add cannabinoids to your Facial Sheet Masks

Ingredients

To make a single sheet mask:
  • Sheet masks or strips of clean cotton

  • 1/2 tbsp. vegetable glycerin, substitutes to try:

    • propylene glycol
    • avocado oil
    • jojoba oil
    • cocoa butter
  • 1/2 tbsp. rosewater, substitutes to try:

    • green tea
    • aloe water
    • lemon water
    • apple cider vinegar
    • buttermilk
  • 1 tsp witch hazel, substitutes to try:

    • distilled water
  • approximately 6 drops hemp oil, substitutes to try:

    • grapeseed oil
    • olive oil
    • coconut oil

Directions

  1. Combine ingredients in a small bowl or on a plate with edges

  2. Stir until combined. We found that using our finger worked best to get the oils to incorporate

  3. Dip sheet mask into mixture; it should all soak up into the mask

  4. Lay sheet mask over your face and gently pat into place. It may be dripping a bit, so be mindful of what you wear and where you are

  5. Allow to soak into your skin for 20-40 minutes — the longer, the better!

  6. Remove mask and gently pat face dry with a clean towel

  7. Bonus: moisturize your neck and chest by rubbing with the still-damp mask!
