Let’s talk about breast health.

While supporting her mother through Stage 4 Breast Cancer, Bōsm’s founder, Raea, uncovered tons of ancient wisdom during her research into breast health (which she shared with us here!). She realized that while we’re taught how to do things like exercise and eat well, we rarely are taught how to care for our breasts — and she wanted to change that. Click here to learn more about how Bōsm got started.

This topical CBD product was designed not only to be used as a tool for breast massage, but also as a teaching opportunity to introduce people — no matter their gender orientation — about how to care for their breasts.

That’s right, breast health isn’t just important for women.

Both men and women have breasts, and while not all breasts are able to produce milk, any person’s breast tissue is capable of developing disease. While less than 1% of all breast cancer cases develop in men, one in 1,000 males will be diagnosed with breast cancer, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Here’s a breakdown of the benefits of each ingredient found in this CBD Breast Serum*:

CBD

There are over 6 different pre-clinical scientific studies researching the effects of cannabinoids on breast cancer. Dr. Christine Sanchez, a female researcher in Spain, was the first to discover the anti-tumor effects of cannabinoids. Scientists compared the specific anti-tumor properties of 5 different cannabinoids and found that CBD was the most potent anti-breast cancer substance. (The Cannabis Index)

Cannabinoids are actually involved in the process of breast cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival by blocking the progression of the cell cycle and causing apoptosis. One report by The Cannabis Index states; “CBD represents the first exogenous agent that can significantly decrease progression of metastatic breast cancer cells.”

Castor Oil

Castor oil contains many beneficial components including fatty acids, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, amino acids, terpenoids, and phytosterols. These various compounds give castor oil the following properties and potential health benefits:

  • Stimulates circulation

  • Supports lymphatic system

  • Anti-diabetic

  • Anti-inflammatory properties

  • Antimicrobial

  • Antioxidant

  • Hepatoprotective (ability to prevent damage to the liver)

  • Free radical scavenging

  • Wound-healing

Castor oil shows some promise in the treatment of cancer. According to the American Cancer Society: “Oncologists now use castor oil as a vehicle for delivering some chemotherapy drugs to cancerous tumors. A special formula of castor oil called Cremophor EL is used as a carrier for paclitaxel, a drug used to treat metastatic breast cancer and other tumors.”

Frankincense Essential Oil

Frankincense essential oil has the terpene pinene with expectorant, decongestant, and anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce swelling.
